A 360° video series which will immerse you in the world of Ulster’s Rhyming Weavers – Ulster-Scots poets who flourished over the 18th & 19th Centuries. Each episode in the series takes a brief look at one of these poets ending with a narration of one of their poems. The series has been filmed in 360° across a variety of special locations in Ulster. “In this episode, filmed around Slemish Mountain, we hear about James Orr – considered by many to be the foremost of the Rhyming Weavers: indeed, he has been called The Bard of Ulster, The Bard of Ballycarry and Ulster’s Robert Burns. Today, more than 200 years since his death, the Ulster-Scots poetry of James Orr is appreciated for its sophistication, layers of meaning, lucidity of expression and the beauty of its contemporary Ulster-Scots language. Enjoy a reading of one of James Orr’s most lyrical pieces, “The Wanderer”. Originally written as a song to be sung to the tune of “Mary’s Dream” it tells the story of a rebel from the 1798 Rebellion, hiding out from the military on the slopes of Slemish. A terrible storm is raging and the Ulsterman, let down by a former friend, is seeking shelter at a cottage owned by a woman called Lizzie. Always cautious of the troops, she sneaks him in out of the wet and gives him her own bed while she dries his wet clothes by the fire.“
